In the 1920s, O'Keeffe began to explore the vast landscapes of New Mexico, which would become a recurring theme in her art. The deserts, mountains, and skies of the American Southwest captivated her.. O'Keeffe's depictions of the expansive landscapes often featured simplified and abstracted forms, emphasizing the grandeur and spirituality of the natural world.
