Collage played a pivotal role in the Dada movement, serving as a powerful tool for subversion and cultural critique. 

Dadaists saw traditional artistic forms as inadequate in capturing the fragmented, chaotic nature of post-war society. Collage, with its ability to assemble different elements into a new whole, mirrored this fractured reality. By juxtaposing unrelated images and texts, Dadaists disrupted traditional notions of coherence and meaning.
