Outsider Supply Drops the Rococo Collection
Outsider Supply is proud to announce a new collection inspired by the Rococo style of the 18th century.
The collection draws inspiration from the ornate French style that first emerged in the 1720s as a bold reaction against the formal, geometric constraints of the preceding Baroque era. This latest offering from Outsider Supply captures the essence of Rococo's theatrical and rule-breaking spirit, translating the movement's signature asymmetrical flourishes, serpentine curves, and nature-inspired motifs into contemporary wearable art.
The Rococo style represents a fascinating historical pivot point that began following the death of King Louis XIV in 1715, when French culture shifted from the grand halls of Versailles to the intimate salons of Parisian aristocrats. This cultural transformation gave birth to an aesthetic philosophy that celebrated lightness over gravitas, featuring delicate pastel palettes of cream tones, pearl greys, light yellows, and pale blues rather than the heavy, dramatic colors of Baroque.
The movement's name derives from the French word 'rocaille,' meaning rock or broken shell, reflecting its abundant use of natural motifs including acanthus leaves, flowers, birds, and marine decorations that created asymmetrical designs resembling the organic curves of the letters 'S' and 'C'.
Often described as superficial and degenerate by critics of its time, Rococo’s emphasis on fantasy, whimsy, and elegant movement challenged the established artistic hierarchy. It created a new visual language that spread rapidly across Europe, influencing everything from furniture and decorative arts to architecture and painting. Today, Rococo continues to inspire artists and designers worldwide, making it one of the most important and enduring art movements in history.
Outsider Supply's Rococo collection honors this legacy by bringing the movement's spirit of creative rebellion and ornate beauty into the modern fashion landscape.
