THE CONCEPT

Eadweard Muybridge (1830–1904) was a pioneer in motion photography, known for his groundbreaking work in capturing sequential images of movement and early work in motion-picture projection. Muybridge's method involved using multiple cameras triggered by the subject's movement to capture a series of still frames. When these images were viewed in rapid succession, they created the illusion of fluid motion, revolutionizing the understanding of movement and it's representation in art.

His famous 'Woman Dancing' series exemplifies his technique: a sequence of individual photographs depicting a dancer in various stages of movement.
