THE CONCEPT
A necessary element in every artist's process: play. In this piece, collage creates space for deep experimentation and an allotment to fully follow creative curiosities.
Marcel Duchamp was one of the most influential artists of the 20th Century and began his career in 1902 but abandoned it for good in 1923 - preferring, as legend has it, to spend his time playing chess.
His obsession with chess was so profound that during his honeymoon, he spent the entire night studying the game, prompting his wife to glue the pieces to the board in frustration. Their marriage ended in divorce just three months later. The allure of the game continued to captivate his mind, leading the Dadaist figure to eventually abandon the art world and dedicate himself entirely to the game for life.
